In reply, Wilson’s bowlers produced a disciplined performance, consistently bowling a good line and length to make scoring difficult for the Skinners batters. Wilson’s U13B won the toss and elected to bat first against Skinners School, producing an excellent team performance to secure a 33-run victory.
The innings got off to a strong start thanks to an impressive opening partnership. Rishaan retired after a well-made 28 from 30 balls, while Vivian contributed a fluent 14 from 13 deliveries. The middle order built on this solid platform, with Vivaan striking an excellent 24. Valuable contributions from Daksh (13) and Shrihaan (11) helped Wilson’s post a competitive total of 155 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Wilson’s found the opening 10 overs challenging in the field as Skinners’ opening batters made a strong start, scoring 45 from the first 48 balls. A combination of misfields and dropped catches allowed the visitors to keep pace with the required run rate.
However, the second half of the innings saw a remarkable turnaround. Wilson’s fielding improved dramatically, highlighted by four outstanding run outs that shifted the momentum firmly in their favour. The bowlers also played their part superbly, with Ralph returning figures of 2-0-10-1, Sam claiming 4-0-26-2, and Sulloch producing a match-winning spell of 1.5-0-7-3.
Skinners were eventually bowled out for 122, giving Wilson’s U13B a well-deserved 33-run victory. It was an excellent all-round team performance, with strong batting, disciplined bowling and a much-improved fielding display proving the difference.
Wilson’s U12A produced an outstanding all-round performance to book their place in the Jubilee Surrey Cup Final with an impressive eight-wicket victory over St George’s Weybridge.
Winning the toss, Wilson’s elected to bowl, aware of the threat posed by Weybridge’s talented left-handed opener. The perfect start came with the second ball of the match as the impressive Arnav Singh struck early, finishing with excellent figures of 4-1-7-1. Vishnu Narens then removed the danger man with his very first delivery, forcing him to play onto his stumps, and ended with outstanding figures of 4-0-17-2.
Wilson’s had to wait until the 14th over for the next breakthrough, but it proved to be a pivotal moment. Vishnu claimed his second wicket before an excellent piece of fielding from Ishaan Patel and Reyansh Chandra resulted in a superb run-out, breaking a dangerous 52-run partnership and leaving two new batters at the crease with six overs remaining.
Wilson’s U13A won the toss and elected to field first in conditions that offered plenty of assistance for the seam bowlers before the temperature rose. Excellent spells from Vayan, Will and Tritish helped restrict Epsom to a very achievable 113-8. However, a number of missed chances in the field proved costly, with our fielding not quite reaching the standard required on the day.
Our run chase got off to the worst possible start as Arjun was dismissed first ball, before the dangerous Tritish fell shortly afterwards. Despite the early setbacks, Sarvesh produced a composed and watchful innings, finishing unbeaten on 46 to keep us firmly in the contest.
With Vayan joining him at the crease and Epsom beginning to wilt in the heat, Wilson’s required just six runs per over. The pair batted positively and calmly to take the game down to the final over, with seven runs needed for victory.
In a dramatic finish, Wilson’s needed three runs to win from the final ball, with two required to force a tie. Unfortunately, Epsom claimed the crucial wicket to secure a two-run victory.
The boys were understandably extremely disappointed, but they showed tremendous character and resilience against a side that had beaten them convincingly earlier in the season. They will undoubtedly learn from the experience and will reflect collectively on the missed opportunities in the field, which ultimately proved to be the difference in challenging conditions.
