Wilson's School

Cricket Update #8

Team Reports

Wilson’s U15A lost the toss and were asked to bat against Howard of Effingham School in the Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup.

An early wicket put Wilson’s under pressure, but Nilin (29 from 20 balls) and Luca (43 from 27 balls) quickly took control of the innings. Their powerful stroke play on both sides of the wicket left the bowlers struggling to contain the scoring rate.

After both set batters were dismissed, the innings slowed slightly through the middle overs before a strong late surge from Rochik (16) and Aariv (12) pushed Wilson’s to an impressive 151-7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, the Effingham batters had no answer to Wilson’s opening bowlers. Vidur produced an excellent spell of 1-7, while Sai claimed 2-4 from his three overs to leave the opposition reeling early on.

The introduction of spin tightened Wilson’s grip on the match even further, with Rochik, Olly and Sam all taking two wickets apiece as Howard of Effingham School were bowled out for just 21.

Wilson's U14A lost the toss and Whitgift elected to bat first, finishing on 115-8 from their 25 overs. Wilson’s were 61-6 after 17.2 overs when heavy rain brought the game to an early end.

Our bowling performance was very consistent today and the fielding was excellent throughout. We restricted Whitgift well early on, never allowing any partnerships to build momentum. However, Whitgift managed to score 16 runs from the final two overs, giving them a more respectable total than perhaps they should have reached. At times, we were a little too happy to concede singles and twos.

In reply, our batting performance was understandably nervy and we allowed too many dot balls to build pressure. Prateek and Kiaan initially kept us just above the required rate, but once Prateek was caught, the required run rate continued to climb. Several rain stoppages interrupted the innings before a huge downpour during the 18th over meant the match had to be decided by Duckworth/Lewis Wilson's lost by 20 runs.

Wilson's U12A won the toss and elected to bat against Alleyn's school. An unbeaten 51* from Nilan gave the team a winning platform after the loss of four early wickets. Nilan’s innings showed exactly how to build an innings under pressure, arriving at 27-3 in the eighth over and absorbing the pressure superbly. Once set, and facing the change bowlers, he accelerated impressively with a series of powerfully struck boundaries down the ground and through extra cover.

In total, Nilan struck eight of the game’s 12 boundaries and was well supported by Vishnu 12, with the pair adding 53 runs in difficult circumstances to turn the innings around.

In reply, the  Alleyn's batters struggled against a devastating spell of 7-12 from four superb overs of leg spin by Reyansh eased the U12A’s to victory after some excellent bowling into the wind from Arnav (3-0-6-2), Vaishno (3-1-8-0) and Suvir (2-0-3-1) kept the innings firmly in check from the Power League.

Wilson's U12B lost the toss and were asked to bat against Alleyn's School. A patient Vihaan (18 off 51), and an outstanding knock from Arjun, who smashed 53 from just 39 deliveries before both being retired allowing others the opportunity to contribute, and Yohan and Nicky both added quick runs from very few balls to help the team reach an impressive 124-1 from their 20 overs.

In the field, the emphasis was on bowling consistent line and length, and the boys delivered superbly. While Alleyn’s struggled to cope with the pressure, the bowling attack remained disciplined throughout. Arjun, Viswajit and Abinhav all claimed two wickets apiece, while Adi, Avik and captain Yohan each picked up one wicket as Alleyn’s were bowled out for just 25 in only 7.4 overs.

A great team performance all round, with Arjun Chaturvedi proving far too strong for the opposition and impressive spells also coming from Adi and Arjun.

Wilson’s U15B side produced an outstanding all-round performance to secure a dominant 101-run victory over Sutton Grammar U15A.

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat, the innings suffered an early setback before the partnership of Neilay and Aarav took complete control of the game. Neilay blasted 49 from just 37 balls, including four huge sixes, while Aarav retired on a well-made 36 from 36 deliveries. The pair batted with confidence and authority, striking powerfully on both sides of the wicket and leaving the Sutton Grammar bowlers struggling to contain them.

After both set batters departed, the innings slowed briefly before a strong finish in the closing overs. Dhruv Anand added an excellent 25 from 17 balls, while Madhav chipped in with 13 valuable runs as Wilson’s closed on an impressive 178/4.

The dominance continued with the ball and in the field. An exceptional opening 10 overs from the U15Bs reduced Sutton Grammar to 58 runs with eight wickets down, effectively ending the contest early. Sid bowled superbly to finish with 2-0-10-2, while Madhav produced a particularly impressive over, taking 2-0-2-2, with the only runs conceded coming via a wide. Debutant Vihaan also starred with the ball, claiming 3-0-21-3 in a memorable first performance for the side.

Wilson’s U14A secured an impressive 32-run victory over Sutton Grammar after a determined all-round performance.

Wilson's lost the toss and were  asked to bat. Wilson’s slumped to 3-2 after just two overs.

The innings continued to wobble, and at 31-6 things were looking bleak. At 36-7, however, Devam and Shon produced an outstanding recovery partnership to completely change the momentum of the game.

Devam played calmly for his 19 from 31 balls, while Shon anchored the innings superbly with 39 from 40 deliveries. Their 50-run partnership gave Wilson’s a platform to build on before Darsh added a quickfire 7 from 5 balls in the final over to push the total to a competitive 122-9.

The bowling performance proved even stronger than the batting effort, with the wickets shared around thanks to a disciplined team display in the field. Sutton Grammar were restricted to 90-8, with Rafa producing the standout spell of the innings, finishing with superb figures of 3-9-3.

A strong fightback from a difficult position and another excellent team performance from the U14s.

Wilson's U13A lost the toss and were asked to bat. Steady opening stand from Vayun (28-ret) and Reyansh got the scoreboard ticking.

Main man was Trithish, hitting some big boundaries and looking dangerous throughout. Retired on 50 and a brief but entertaining cameo from Leo (21) at the end saw us score 146 after 20 overs.

In reply Sutton Grammar lost two wickets in their opening over and never looked like troubling the target. Wickets were shared but was most impressed by Will behind the stumps. Very competent in all departments and communicated excellently too. Sutton Grammar were bowled out for 83 with the final ball of the match.

Wilson's U12A lost the toss and were put into bat. Akshat led the way with 50 off 44 balls (9 fours), well supported by Ishaan in an opening stand that took us to 78/2. A middle-order collapse saw us lose 7 wickets in 5 overs, but sensible batting from Vishnu and Vaishno helped us reach 119 from 20 overs.

The bowlers kept good discipline throughout and regularly kept Reigate behind the rate. However, some lapses in concentration in the field, including costly misfields, made the finish tighter than it should have been. Vivaan bowled an excellent final over to secure the 2-run win and finished with 2 wickets, while Arnav, Sulamain, and Suvir took one each.
