Wilson's School

Football Update #15

Player of the Week

Oscar (Year 7) inspired the U12As in the Surrey Cup with a performance full of energy and enthusiasm covering every blade of grass. The experienced duo of Zeph (Year 13) and Adhrit (Year 13) continue to shine for the 1st XI with two mature performances in their Sutton Cup win. Max (Year 8) put in his best performance for the school for the U13As against Shenfield - he won numerous tackles and headers in driving his team forward.

Taha (Year 9) had been out injured for a few months but what a return! To the delight of his teammates, he scored a brace to earn himself Player of the Week.

Team of the Week

Even though they lost to Shenfield a huge well done to our U13A’s who got through to the last 16 of the National Cup, a fantastic achievement that they should be proud of. The Year 9’s had a good week with the A’s, C’s and D’s all gaining convincing wins.

The U14As earn Team of the Week with a good all-round team display to see them through to the third round of the Surrey Cup.

Match Report

Wilson’s U14Cs 6 VS 0 City Of London

On Thursday 22 January, Wilsons U14C travelled to City of London for a rainy away fixture, looking to extend their unbeaten run.

Wilson's wasted no time asserting control, opening the scoring within the first ten minutes. Sustained pressure paid off when Aarush struck from the edge of the box, firing into the bottom corner. Despite the early goal, the game remained scrappy and cagey, but Wilsons soon doubled their advantage with a well-worked move. A switch of play from Pragyan gave Jatin the chance to run at the defence, and after a scramble in the box he dispatched his first goal of the game.

The half wasn’t over yet though. Nathan conceded a foul on the edge of the box, leading to a free kick that Jivoane watched strike the crossbar. At half-time, the game was still in contention.

The second half followed a similar pattern. After a brief spell of resistance, City of London was unable to stem the tide as Taha added a third with a cool finish inside the box, following a good layoff from Neby. It was Taha’s first goal since returning from a foot injury.

Defensively, Jas and Thomas were outstanding, keeping a disciplined and organised backline not leaking anything past them. Bilal, Kabir and Akhil also impressed at full-back, contributing strongly both defensively and going forward.

The fourth goal came from a corner delivered by Pragyan, with Nathan’s shot falling to Anir, who struck confidently into the back of the net. The scoring wasn’t finished there, as a superb poacher’s finish from Taha in the box gave him his second of the game on his return from injury.

In the dying minutes, Wilsons pushed forward once more, with Bilal crossing into Aarush, who capped a memorable afternoon by grabbing his second goal with a finish into the top right corner.

It was a statement win that highlighted the attacking quality and defensive solidity throughout the squad.
