Year 9 artists sketch at Kew Gardens

As part of their GCSE Art studies, 19 of our Year 9s took their sketch books to Kew Gardens with a view to capturing the form and feel of different leaves and plants.

Students also had the opportunity to take in The Singh Twins’ exhibition which explored the intersections of botany, empire, and trade through striking contemporary artworks inspired by historical botanical archives. This included a short film, ‘King Cotton: An Artist’s Tale’, which brilliantly reflected on colonial narratives of plant commodification and their relevance today.

Miss Waterhouse commented:

"Our Art trip to Kew Gardens was filled with observing, sketching, The Singh Twins exhibition, and a few ice creams!"

Many thanks to her and Mr Straw for coordinating the visit!
