A strong start for music

It has been a fantastic start to the new school year for the music department, with students across the school throwing themselves into rehearsals.
We have been delighted to welcome Mr Thomas Motley as our new Director of Music, joining a very experienced and talented team of teachers. Mr Motley has been getting to know students and colleagues across the department and has been hugely encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment he has seen in rehearsals.
There has been plenty of musical activity already, with particularly strong starts for Symphony Orchestra, Odyssey Big Band and Cambiata, as well as smaller ensembles including Chamber Choir, Skiaull and Clarinet Ensemble. It has been wonderful to see so many students coming together to make music, with rehearsals already sounding very promising.
We have a number of exciting events coming up, with Chamber Choir rehearsing Stanford's Evening Service in C and Rachmaninov's Bogoroditsye Dyevo for their evensong recital at St Michael and All Angels on Tuesday, 10 November, and Big Band preparing a range of music for our first ever Rock and Jazz Night on Tuesday 8 December! The Winter Concert will take place on Wednesday, 2 December.
Congratulations to all our musicians on such an enthusiastic start. We are looking forward to an exciting year music across the school.
