Spring in the Music Department
The spring term is perhaps the busiest for the Music Department, with over 200 pupils participating in our massive Young Musician of the Year competition in February and March, as well as a series of concerts and events. These include Soloists' Evenings for Year 7 and 9 pupils, and a Chamber Concert. We have also had concert visits to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and hosted Sutton Music Trust's LEAP Ensemble with Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
This year's Young Musician of the Year Final was adjudicated by Mr Luke Rogers, a distinguished former Director of Music, who has recently been appointed Headmaster of The King's School, Chester. In his remarks at the end, he reflected very warmly on his treasured memories of working at our 'remarkable' school, and the exceptional talent and dedication of pupils.
This week's delightful Year 7 Showcases gave us a glimpse of pupils' progress at the start of that journey, with a full report to follow in the coming weeks.
Amid all this, we have been delighted to host events for the Coulsdon and Purley Festival, including the Grand Final and Prizegiving on Saturday, 25 April. Several Wilson's soloists and ensembles have relished the opportunity to be part of this long-established and august festival.
