Wilson's School

School's out for the summer

As always at this time of year, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of all those who have organised trips and visits, including those who work behind the scenes to make bookings and manage travel arrangements, often months in advance.

Please do take the opportunity to revisit some of the highlights from this term, particularly those relating to the international robotics event, Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and various charity events. Look out also for some great photos from the recent production of We Will Rock You; there were superb performances on stage, an outstanding band, and excellent work backstage, but a special mention must go to Benjamin (Year 12), whose skills with the lighting helped take this show to the next level.

We have enjoyed a warm Sports Day at the very end of term, and I was pleased to share news of many sporting achievements this year as part of the event. I placed particular emphasis on accomplishments in athletics, so here are a few other highlights.

Sutton Cup Football Winners: 1st XI and Year 8
Badminton England National Champions: Key Stage 4
Third Place in National Squash Finals: Key Stages 4 and 5
Surrey Cup Basketball Runners-up: Year 11
Table Tennis South London League Winners: U13
Surrey Cup Cricket Finalists: Year 7

Among individual achievements, footballer Niven (Year 7) has been signed by Brighton & Hove Albion Academy, and Mark (Year 12) has performed very impressively in the Junior Wimbledon U18 Singles and numerous other international tournaments. We shall watch their progress with great interest.

May I wish you and your family a very enjoyable summer break? Until 1 September 2026, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, child and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of attractions. There is also a new website which allows families to type in their postcode and find participating venues near them to make the most of summer savings: https://summersavings.gov.uk. We urge all families to investigate the possibilities!

Whatever year group he is in, please encourage your son to take pride in the progress he has made this year and to reflect on the achievements that mean the most to him. I hope the weeks ahead bring a well-earned opportunity to rest, recharge and return ready for all that the new academic year will bring.
