Year 10 pupils take the lead

With Year 12 students getting underway with their Templeton Scholarship Projects this week, Year 10 pupils have found themselves the most senior boys in school, taking on some prefect duties and proving themselves to be excellent role models for younger pupils.

Weeks like these sharpen the minds of pupils in Key Stage 4 about the skills and attitudes that they need to thrive in the future, including the characteristics of leaders. The mediaeval motto "Praeesse est prodesse" encapsulates the idea that to lead is to serve; we perhaps learn most about leadership when given opportunities to serve.

Well done to all Year 10 pupils who have done so graciously in recent weeks.

In a further fillip to pupils in school this week, we received this very kind message from a member of the public on Thursday evening.

I have just returned home on the 157 bus. I realised to my horror that the timing of my trip coincided with the end of the school day. I am used to being jostled by dozens of discourteous students from various local schools.

Not so today. Your pupils stood in an orderly line, supervised by a member of staff, allowing we ordinary folk to board the bus first. Once the bus was in motion, even without supervision the students behaved perfectly. A credit to the school.
